Recently, Ashley Cobb, Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) at our Columbus Treatment Center, demonstrated what it truly means to go above and beyond in service of patients, colleagues, and the mission of recovery.
When Patients Needed Her Most, Ashley Stepped Up
When our Augusta Treatment Center faced a critical staffing shortage with no pharmacist available to prepare take-home medications, Ashley didn’t hesitate.
She answered the call, knowing that patients relied on uninterrupted access to their medications. Rather than allowing the shortage to disrupt care, Ashley made it her priority to ensure every patient continued receiving the treatment they deserved.
Her actions over the next four days reflected an extraordinary commitment to patient care.
Four Days of Unwavering Dedication
Thursday Night: Going Where She Was Needed
After completing her regular shift in Columbus, Ashley drove four hours to Augusta. Instead of ending her workday, she spent the evening preparing vital patient medications and take-home doses until late into the night.
For Ashley, patient care came before personal convenience.
Friday: Overcoming Every Obstacle
While working in Augusta, Ashley faced an unexpected power outage followed by an internet failure that lasted well into Friday morning.
Despite these challenges, she remained on-site, doing everything possible to keep pharmacy operations moving safely and efficiently. Her determination ensured patients experienced little to no disruption in their treatment.
Saturday to Monday: Answering the Call Again
After finally returning home Saturday evening, Ashley received another call for help.
The Augusta pharmacy still needed coverage.
Without hesitation, Ashley turned around and made another four-hour drive back to Augusta, arriving before the clinic opened Monday morning so medications would be ready when patients arrived.
Her willingness to put patients first—again—speaks volumes about her dedication and professionalism.
Monday Morning: Solving Problems in Real Time
Just when things seemed to be settling down, another internet outage threatened pharmacy operations.
Instead of waiting for someone else to solve the problem, Ashley took initiative. Using her mobile hotspot, she troubleshot the system herself and restored pharmacy operations, allowing medication dispensing to continue without unnecessary delays.
Her calm leadership and resourcefulness kept patient care moving forward when it mattered most.
Living the Mission of Recovery
Throughout those four demanding days, Ashley never lost sight of why she was there.
Every mile driven, every late night worked, and every challenge overcome had one purpose: ensuring patients continued receiving the medications and support essential to their recovery.
Her actions perfectly embodied a simple but powerful question:
